Original Painting: Poppy Dance

While painting these vibrant Alpine poppies, I was surprised by how famous they’d become—hundreds of people came to see them! At one point, a couple even laid down in the dirt directly beneath the very blooms I was capturing, as a photographer positioned them under my easel. It wasn’t easy to focus on my painting but I captured the joyful dance of poppies and people.

These wildflowers truly seemed to dance in the wind. Even with the crowds, Poppy Dance captures the quiet magic of sitting under fragrant Alpine mountains, surrounded by color, light, and motion. Painted outdoors in the hot Utah summer sun, this floral watercolor reflects the fleeting beauty of wild poppies in full bloom.

This original painting is from the Alpine Poppy Collection of watercolor paintings that has been years in the making. It all started with painting purely from imagination, picturing bright poppies beneath sunlit mountain peaks before I actually saw and painted the Alpine poppies in real life.

This collection has grown from imagination into reality, a tribute to the resiliency of wildflowers and the meaning poppies hold as symbols of remembrance — especially as Independence Day nears.
